So... I got hooked to Frieren, read some fanfics, then got hooked to the concept of demon!Himmel. Now I wrote this.

Himmel loves Frieren so much.

I bet every time they fight together, Himmel is on the verge of losing his fucking mind. He’s so grateful that he’s a frontline fighter and Frieren is support, because it means he can take attacks for her and it’s not suspicious. He hates himself because he knows that if it came down to it, not only would he die for Frieren, but he’d sacrifice Heiter and Eisen as well (ofc he'd try to save everyone, but it doesn't always work that way). He loves her so much. Sometimes, when she’s dominating over the demons and slaughtering them, he gets distracted and almost dies. But more than anything, he would hate himself if he hurt her, or made her uncomfortable. So he will swallow and oppress the feelings relentlessly. It’s easier once he realises that she’s so oblivious she’ll never realise unless he actually tells her. After that, he relaxes a bit more (and allows himself to do stuff like buying her that ring). Heiter and Eisen know, naturally, and pity him. Frieren is an elf. She is an entirely different species. She likely doesn’t see any of them as more than large children. 

She was so beautiful it blinded him, and yet he couldn’t tear his eyes away. Even her flaws only made her more loveable. There was not a single thing about her that he didn’t find utterly enchanting. Everything was for her. From leaving the statues so that even some meagre remnant of his form could stay by her side for as long as possible. To taking all matter of inane requests and detours just to extend their trip as much as possible. It felt selfish. While he did truly want to help people, at heart, he selfishly relished the extra time he was allowed to stay by her side. Frieren leaving him was his worst nightmare, and yet he knew he’d let her go without comment if that was what she wished.

Frieren's a great depiction of an immortal because you can understand exactly why this logic works for her. Her superpower is the Law of Large Numbers

“Intervention”

500 words, canon compliant, post-Demon King “everyone going their own way” angst

"You know, I would've expected you to be going off with Frieren."

Heiter is not a very fair opponent. When he wants to say something he knows that the hearer won't like, he approaches from behind and gets it said before he's seen. Thus, hearing those words from behind lets Himmel know to anticipate a headache.

"Why would I do that, Heiter? She didn't invite me."

"Himmel, my naive friend-"

He's taken the seat in front of Himmel's now, so Himmel can properly glare at him when he cuts him off. "Don't, Heiter."

"I just meant that it's not good for you to be by yourself all the time."

"It's fine, really. I won't be alone."

"Sure."

"Heiter, you forget who I am," he says, affecting a very forced but very convincing smile. "I'm popular now."

"You've been popular since you learned how to talk. My point stands."

"But I don't see why I'd need to go get on Frieren's nerves for that."

"You definitely wouldn't."

"She likes being alone."

"No, she's never known anything except being alone."

"And?"

"You've heard the way she talks about her master, right?" Heiter says. "Seen the way she keeps on digging up strange spells to show off because she wants to impress us?"

"That doesn't mean-"

"She's the kind of person who doesn't think about anything that's not right in front of her nose."

"Yeah."

"And, I'm sorry to say it, but if you're not in front of her nose, she's going to forget how much she likes you."

Himmel's cheeks flush. He knows he shouldn't have been so frank with Heiter about his feelings, but he'd done it anyway, and here he is reaping the consequences.

"By that standard, you could be the one who went traveling with her," he says lightly. Hot air rises and so does embarrassment. "Why's it so important that I do it?"

"By what standard? You're the one who's in love with her."

"That doesn't-"

"And when you both go off on your own merry way, she's going to forget how nice it is not to be alone, and you're going to realize how nice it was when you still had it."

"You're being unfair, Heiter, you know all I want is for us all to be-"

"Then stop being a martyr and go after it!"

He opens his mouth then shuts it like he's been slapped. All the better; Heiter doesn't seem to be done.

"Frieren is never going to realize what she means to you if you don't tell her, Himmel."

"But if she wanted me to-"

"Would she realize it if she did?"

"You're asking me to assume that I know her own mind better than she does!"

"No, I'm asking you to give her a chance."

"A chance to what, exactly?"

"To...to consider things," Heiter sputters, red-faced.

"Heiter?"

"What, Himmel?"

"I don't know that much, I guess, but I think Frieren is the kind of person who goes after what she really wants."
