So... I got hooked to Frieren, read some fanfics, then got hooked to the concept of demon!Himmel. Now I wrote this.

Frieren's a great depiction of an immortal because you can understand exactly why this logic works for her. Her superpower is the Law of Large Numbers

“Intervention”

500 words, canon compliant, post-Demon King ��everyone going their own way” angst

"You know, I would've expected you to be going off with Frieren."

Heiter is not a very fair opponent. When he wants to say something he knows that the hearer won't like, he approaches from behind and gets it said before he's seen. Thus, hearing those words from behind lets Himmel know to anticipate a headache.

"Why would I do that, Heiter? She didn't invite me."

"Himmel, my naive friend-"

He's taken the seat in front of Himmel's now, so Himmel can properly glare at him when he cuts him off. "Don't, Heiter."

"I just meant that it's not good for you to be by yourself all the time."

"It's fine, really. I won't be alone."

"Sure."

"Heiter, you forget who I am," he says, affecting a very forced but very convincing smile. "I'm popular now."

"You've been popular since you learned how to talk. My point stands."

"But I don't see why I'd need to go get on Frieren's nerves for that."

"You definitely wouldn't."

"She likes being alone."

"No, she's never known anything except being alone."

"And?"

"You've heard the way she talks about her master, right?" Heiter says. "Seen the way she keeps on digging up strange spells to show off because she wants to impress us?"

"That doesn't mean-"

"She's the kind of person who doesn't think about anything that's not right in front of her nose."

"Yeah."

"And, I'm sorry to say it, but if you're not in front of her nose, she's going to forget how much she likes you."

Himmel's cheeks flush. He knows he shouldn't have been so frank with Heiter about his feelings, but he'd done it anyway, and here he is reaping the consequences.

"By that standard, you could be the one who went traveling with her," he says lightly. Hot air rises and so does embarrassment. "Why's it so important that I do it?"

"By what standard? You're the one who's in love with her."

"That doesn't-"

"And when you both go off on your own merry way, she's going to forget how nice it is not to be alone, and you're going to realize how nice it was when you still had it."

"You're being unfair, Heiter, you know all I want is for us all to be-"

"Then stop being a martyr and go after it!"

He opens his mouth then shuts it like he's been slapped. All the better; Heiter doesn't seem to be done.

"Frieren is never going to realize what she means to you if you don't tell her, Himmel."

"But if she wanted me to-"

"Would she realize it if she did?"

"You're asking me to assume that I know her own mind better than she does!"

"No, I'm asking you to give her a chance."

"A chance to what, exactly?"

"To...to consider things," Heiter sputters, red-faced.

"Heiter?"

"What, Himmel?"

"I don't know that much, I guess, but I think Frieren is the kind of person who goes after what she really wants."

Someone said there wasn't a lot of Frieren fanfic and I looked and there's barely 250 total on AO3 and now I'm like.

I have a Frieren plot bunny.

I could write a Frieren fic.

frieren touched a lot of topics an it could've easily gone badly but it always manages to surprise... it feels so cozy too

"Whoa--!" though Himmel was usually a prepared man, nothing could have readied him for a.. small, rounded, knife-wielding creature coming straight for his feet. Fearing his wooden sword would have just broken if he attempted to use it, the hero narrowly jumped out of the way instead; rounding back with his foot and stomping it down on his assailant. Not enough to break it, of course; but enough to stop it in its tracks.

Wondering what exactly had just transpired, he looked in time to see a woman observing the scene before her.. and quickly, the pieces seemed to fall into place.

".. excuse me, but does this belong to you?"
